The Santorini Arts Factory (SAF) reaching two years of operation and hosting two widely successful summer festivals (2014 & 2015), presents the program for this summer, which is available here.
In 2016, a rich arts festival takes place in Santorini, hosting aesthetic performances from Greece and beyond. Theatre, dance, music ensembles, concerts, classical and new dramaturgy, theater for children and adolescents, silent theater, ancient theater with English surtitles, poetry and philosophy, peripatetic dialogues, visual art exhibitions, engagements from abroad, partnerships, collaborations, are just some of the parameters that make up the mosaic of this year vision.
A vision, not exhausted in the usual tourist practices but which actively invests in culture, education and alternative tourism by carrying out actions and artistic events that aim in educating and enhancing the visibility of the Greek islands, the ancient and the modern history of Santorini, as well as the material and cultural goods that the island has to offer to the thousands of visitors arriving from all over the world.
A vision that has only just begun.
At the same time with the festival, in the same area, the Industrial Tomato Museum “D. Nomikos” in Vlychada is in operation, presenting visitors a historic journey of Santorini and its traditions, focusing on the production and processing of the Santorini tomato, at the same spot where the machinery of the old factory are located since 1945. In the Art Shop visitors can find selected samples of Greek design, small works of art, jewelry, books, music and local products from small producers.
For all these reasons, SAF has been recently awarded by the European Institution EFFE (Europe for Festivals, Festivals for Europe) for 2015-2016.
