The Gyzi Megaron Festival continues on Tuesday, August 21, with the concert of Irish violinist Maighread Mc Crann and Italian pianist Franceso Nicolosi. The two great performers will brighten up the Festival with a recital which includes Bach’s famous Ciaccona for solo violin, the Schumann sonata op 105 n.1 and the Schubert sonata op 137 n.1 for violin and piano and Liszt’s Spanish Rhapsody for piano solo.
Maighread McCrann is first concertmaster of the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra. Αs a soloist and chamber musician she performed extensively in all the major european cities. She has played baroque violin in Nicolaus Harnoncourt’s Concentus Musicus and was appointed Professor of violin in the University for Performing Arts in Graz.
Francesco Nicolosi won the third prize at the International Piano Competition of Santander in 1980 and the second prize at the Concours International d’ Exècution Musicale in Geneva. He toured all over the world and recorded 22 CDs with Naxos and Marco Polo labels. He is currently artistic director of the Massimo Bellini Theater in Catania.
