Santorini Kouloura 2023: A New Era for the Classic Label by Artemis Karamolegos Winery

One of the most iconic and beloved labels of Artemis Karamolegos Winery, formerly known simply as “Santorini,” enters a new era with a fresh identity: Santorini Kouloura – a tribute to one of the most distinctive elements of Santorini’s viticultural heritage.

The kouloura is the traditional circular pruning method used in Santorini, designed to protect the grapes from the island’s strong winds and intense sunlight. This new label doesn’t just introduce a new name—it encapsulates a philosophy that highlights tradition, terroir, and the unique personality of Assyrtiko.

The 2023 vintage is a pure expression of this vision. Grapes come from old vines, about 80 years old, grown in key vineyard areas across the island. The blend (90% Assyrtiko, 10% Athiri & Aidani) is vinified separately in stainless steel tanks to preserve the freshness and aromatic profile of each variety. The wine rests on its lees for at least 12 months, gaining depth and complexity.

On the nose, it offers a fruity and elegant bouquet, with notes of stone fruits, flowers, and herbs, all supported by the characteristic minerality of Santorini’s volcanic soil. The palate is fresh and vibrant, with crisp acidity and a refined yet solid structure, leading to a long and lingering finish.

Perfect pairings: fish tartare, shrimp, grilled octopus, or whole roasted fish.
Serving temperature: 9 – 11°C.
