Wine maker’s notes
Winemaking:
St John Amphora was meticulously crafted from grapes sourced primarily from the esteemed “Mesa Pariani” and “Lakos” vineyards nestled in the Pyrgos village region. The journey begins with careful reception and static clarification at a precise 13.5°C for a full 24 hours. Next, we usher in controlled fermentation using specially selected yeasts, maintaining a temperature of 16.5°C, within two distinct compositions and sizes of Italian-origin amphorae, one made of terracotta and the other clay. Following this, the wine luxuriates in its fine lees within the amphorae for a period of two months before embarking on nearly 12 months of aging within the same containers. Finally, the wine is gracefully bottled during the third week of August 2023.
Organoleptic Characteristics:
This wine presents itself with a luminous white-yellow hue, accompanied by a pristine bouquet exuding strength, tension, and harmonious concentration. Delightful aromas of citrus fruits, sweet grapefruit, luscious ripe pear, and tantalizing lychee interplay with subtle hints of delicate floral notes. Upon the palate, a delightful interplay unfolds: the acidity invigorates while the alcohol gently caresses, leaving behind a sensation of heightened sweetness from unfermented sugars. The wine’s finish is both enduring and persistent, gracefully balancing between refreshing crispness, lively nerve, and enveloping roundness.
Very limited production of 1100 bottles.

About Venetsanos Winery
Venetsanos winery is located right above the port of Athinios, overlooking the magnificent caldera of Santorini. The Venetsanos family has a very long tradition in producing wine. Originally was produced for the island and subsequently, it was exported extensively, and particularly to countries such as Russia. It was built in 1947 by Venetsanos family and became the first industrial winery on the island. Its most distinguishing feature is the structural design, which essentially used gravity, facilitating energy efficiency, at a time when access to electricity and other energy sources was very limited. The winery was built in an unconventional manner constructed from above and moving downwards.
The Venetsanos winery, that can now be visited, is the culmination of this rich family tradition with the recently revamped buildings. The exceptional architectural structure is combined with the history of one of the most important wine producers in the Aegean. The winery is located in the most breathtaking location offering incredible vistas over the caldera and volcanic islands.
The winery today offers you the chance to walk through and discover the history and tradition as well as the new winemaking techniques. You are able to take a detailed tour of the winery from our expert staff while also tasting some of our exceptional wines
